I have been saying that I turn 21 every year for the past decade. Now, there is a scientific evidence on how dancing tricks your brain and body to help you stay youthful.
Dancing may offset some effects of aging in the brain
The old adage “Dancing keeps you young” now has scientific backing.
A new study led by a Colorado State University researcher shows that dance actually slows down aging. Published in the medical journal “Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience,” the study found that dance classes can improve overall health, brain speed and memory.
The experiment was done on groups of healthy elderly test subjects, who took dance classes over a period of six months. The researchers found that those who danced showed an increase in the brain’s “white matter,” the area where processing speed and memory are conducted.
This means that moving around and learning through dance can keep a person sharp and even offset aging.
